Junior Tax Accountant Job Description

This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our public practice team in Sydney. As a Junior Tax Accountant, you will have the chance to develop hands-on tax experience with small to medium enterprises, international corporations, and high net worth clients.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and assist with income tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts, and partnerships, including schedules and workpapers.
  • Lodge BAS/IAS, manage GST, PAYG(W)/PAYGI, STP finalisation, and superannuation compliance.
  • Support FBT returns, CGT worksheets, and depreciation schedules; conduct basic tax calculations.
  • Perform bank/GL reconciliations, year-end journals, and trial balance adjustments to firm quality standards.
  • Conduct tax research (ATO rulings/legislative updates), draft short notes, and contribute to tax planning tasks under supervision.
  • Liaise with clients to gather source documents, maintain accurate records, and assist with routine ATO correspondence and portal tasks.
  • Maintain orderly files in the practice management system, adhere to internal quality control procedures.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an Australian university.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in an Australian accounting firm/public practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal English; multilingual skills are highly regarded.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and teamwork.
  • Proficient in MS Office; exposure to Xero / MYOB / QuickBooks and ATO Online Services is preferred.
