Transportation Manager Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Transportation Manager to lead our high-performance International Flight Catering team at Melbourne Airport.

This role is responsible for the management of daily fleet operations and servicing customer aircraft at Melbourne Airport. The Transportation Manager will oversee a dedicated team of Airside Drivers, Supervisors, and Leading Hands, and be accountable for the coordination of time-sensitive planning, scheduling, and on-shift movements of specialized catering trucks.

  • Manage multiple teams to provide accurate and timely service delivery to all clients and aircraft.
  • Manage, coach, and develop the team, leading by example at all times.
  • Lead departmental labor costs and manage associated budgets.
  • Collaborate with Resource Coordinators and Workforce Planning to ensure coverage of all shifts across the Transportation department.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service Managers to ensure all operations and processes align with achieving the best outcome for customers.
  • Lead all transport and service delivery activities to ensure all flights are serviced according to Master Planning Schedules (MPS) and Customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs) while achieving On-Time Performance (OTP).
  • Coordinate and engage other departments to cover all critical interdependencies.
  • Maintain effective control of the Fleet, ensuring daily care and long-term planning is scheduled in conjunction with Vehicle Coordinators/Mechanics.
  • Be involved in any incident investigations, service delays, or customer complaints.
  • E nsure transparent and regular communications with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Be an Ambassador for and build a 'Safety First' culture within your team.
  • Manage/complete any Hygiene, Quality, or Food Safety Audits for your department.
  • Adhere to any and all regulatory and standards compliance requirements.
  • Review, analyze, and report on weekly and monthly performance indicators.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in a similar role, proven leadership experience to manage a team of 100+ staff, substantial exposure to Transportation, Logistics, or Freight Forwarding industries, leadership agility, diplomacy, and ability to resolve complex problems, flexibility to work both on the floor and in the office as required, high energy, and results-driven with the ability to work across and within teams, good understanding of Food Safety/WHS and quality assurance, good PC skills, and an ability to work with automated time and attendance systems and other business-related systems.
