Job Overview

The Senior Trading Underwriter plays a pivotal role in devising and implementing an effective strategy for product growth.

  • Collaborates with the Underwriting Head to develop and refine underwriting strategies, ensuring continuous growth and margin improvement.
  • Has accountability for executing the underwriting strategy, leveraging market insights to inform business decisions.
  • Works closely with Product Managers to establish short- and medium-term financial plans, driving revenue growth and expansion.
  • Develops and maintains extensive knowledge of the market, including legal, economic, competitive, and socio-demographic factors that influence market dynamics.
  • Builds strong relationships with broker partners at senior management levels to develop and expand the portfolio, meeting or exceeding financial targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrites a diverse range of risks in accordance with established underwriting appetite, providing expert input and feedback to refine our risk management practices.
  • Serves as a trusted technical advisor and opinion leader within the underwriting team, brokers, and internal functions, driving informed decision-making.
  • Provides actionable feedback to Product Managers and Heads of Class on the effectiveness of risk pricing models, informing data-driven business decisions.
  • Contributes to identifying key risks threatening business success and sustainability, developing mitigation strategies to ensure long-term growth.
  • Leads and manages a team of Underwriters and Senior Underwriters, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration to drive trading activity and new relationship development.

  • Shows a clear grasp of risk management principles, proactively identifying, monitoring, and mitigating risks that threaten business objectives and success.
