
Aboriginal Cultural Liaison Specialist

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as an Aboriginal Cultural Mentor and Support Officer. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to supporting the cultural identity of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct assistance to staff, children, and families across all departments to ensure their cultural needs are met.
- Work with families, children, staff, and carers to develop a cultural plan that meets the unique needs of each individual.
- Identify and locate extended family connections and facilitate reengagement with families and kin.
- Liaise with Aboriginal communities to promote cross-cultural understanding and collaboration.
- Offer mentoring support to children and young people to connect with their family, culture, and community.
- Assist staff, families, and children in identifying their communities of origin, connection to country, and mob.
- Conduct risk assessments and participate in case planning meetings with families, Government Departments, and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients.
- Maintain accurate records and files according to our policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with other Indigenous services and government departments to develop inter-agency protocols.
- Prioritise, organise, and complete set tasks given by management, adhering to timeframes.
Essential Criteria
- Hold a current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011).
- A valid driver's licence.
- Vehicles that can transport 4 people or more.
- Comprehensive Car Insurance.
- Ability to follow protocol and individualized programs designed for the young person.
- Willingness to participate in pre-employment medical checks.
- Two work-related references.
- Recognition by local Indigenous groups.
- Working knowledge of youth work principles and practices.
- Extensive experience in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Familiarity with Needs Based Restorative Framework concepts and strategies.
Desirable Qualifications
- Diploma of Community Services or related field.
- Bachelor qualification in Human Services or relevant field.
