About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel to join our team at Pacific National, the largest provider of diversified rail freight services in Australia. As a key member of our legal team, you will play a vital role in managing legal risks and providing critical advice to support our business objectives.

As a Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for handling a diverse array of legal tasks, including commercial, customer and supplier arrangements, infrastructure projects, property transactions, health safety and environment matters, disputes and claims management, compliance and regulatory matters.

You will advise the Pacific National business on applicable regulatory regimes, including Australian rail industry specific legislation and health, safety, and environmental frameworks. Additionally, you will assist with the negotiation of key commercial contracts, including customer and supplier contracts and property documents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide critical advice and support to the Pacific National business on legal matters
  • Manage legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them
  • Advise on commercial, customer and supplier arrangements, infrastructure projects, property transactions, health safety and environment matters, disputes and claims management, compliance and regulatory matters
  • Negotiate key commercial contracts, including customer and supplier contracts and property documents
  • Assist with the management of legal disputes and proceedings filed against or on behalf of Pacific National
About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Bachelor of Laws or equivalent, and be admitted to practice as a Lawyer in Australia. You will also need to have a minimum of 2 years legal experience, in private practice or in an in-house commercial environment.

You will be an independent and innovative thinker, with exceptional communication and influencing skills. You will also have a strong commercial focus combined with sound drafting and negotiation skills. Additionally, you will be able to work autonomously, whilst also being a team player and manage competing priorities.
