This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead a dynamic and collaborative team responsible for delivering excellent client-focused support of teaching and research activities across multiple schools and faculties at the University.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide effective leadership, management, delegation, coordination, and guidance
- Lead the implementation of service improvements, service excellence, and operational efficiencies within the technical services teams
- Act as a cohesive link between the work area, other technical services teams, researchers, students, core research facilities, and external clients
- Plan and manage the effective utilisation of resources across the designated technical areas of responsibility
- Champion best practice workplace health & safety, compliance, and risk management
- Oversee risk management and emergency response
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering or trade qualification (e.g. machining, fabrication), with extensive experience in managing a diverse range of workshops in a large and complex working environment
- Proven experience of managing a medium to large-sized team, preferably in a Higher Education/Research Institution
- Experience leading a team through organisational change
- Able to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders
- Relevant experience in managing and forecasting budgets, approving requisitions, and overseeing expenditure
- Experienced in subtractive manufacturing technologies: Machining/Fabrication (e.g. conventional/CNC machine tools, welding), woodworking
- Acutely aware of safety regulations and operating procedures within a workshop environment, including experience in working with, storing, and disposing of hazardous substances with well-rounded experience in implementing safety procedures relevant to a workshop
- Opportunity to partner with researchers and students working on unique projects and novel solutions
