About Victim Assist Queensland (VAQ):
VAQ helps victims recover from violent crime, including domestic and family violence.
The services we deliver include:
- Providing financial assistance to aid recovery.
- Supporting the victim services sector through information, coordination, research, education, and funding.
- Assisting government and non-government agencies to comply with the Charter of Victims' Rights.
The Victim Services Coordinator leads a multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality services to support victims of violent crime in Queensland.
This role drives organisational change, culture, and capability, and provides leadership to VAQ staff.
The key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with other managers to achieve business objectives.
- Driving organisational change and improvement, and providing strategic leadership and management to a multi-disciplinary team.
- Fostering a positive and collaborative team culture, and promoting productive relationships with stakeholders.
- Providing strategic analysis and advice on complex operational policy and legislative issues.
The Victim Services Coordinator manages the state-wide Victim Services Coordination Unit, supervising and supporting staff to effectively:
- Develop educational programs to promote awareness of victims' needs and rights.
- Ensure the distribution of information about the operation of the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
- Assist victim service providers to coordinate and provide services efficiently.
- Promote the Charter of Victims' Rights, and help entities comply with it.
- Oversee the management of complaints about contraventions of the victims' charter.
- Assist victims in obtaining necessary information or assistance.
- Administer funding to non-government agencies providing services for victims of crime in Queensland.
- Undertake or commission research about victims' needs.
The role contributes to financial, human resource, and performance management activities, including budget and establishment management, workforce planning, coaching, mentoring, and staff supervision.
