Job Description

Role Summary: We are looking for a skilled Site Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operation of our Maker Space site in Townsville. As the on-site supervisor and technical coordinator, you will work closely with the Project Manager and local unit innovation representatives to deliver the Army Makerspace Program.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the maintenance of consumable levels, machine readiness, housekeeping, and health and safety management.
  • Coordinate client inductions and technical training, including coordination and delivery.
  • Manage safety system administration and implementation.
  • Evaluate equipment and consumable requirements.
  • Support and guide local innovation activities and events.
  • Contribute to the development of site-specific SOPs.
  • Collect and report facility and equipment usage data.
  • Assist users in developing problem-solving and ideation skills through hands-on experience and technical guidance.
  • Consult with users to identify project support needs.
  • Work with users and the Makerspace support network to develop a technical support plan.
  • Establish and run makerspace operational processes to meet unit innovation and experimentation goals.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and project issues, escalating them as necessary.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in technical trades (electronics, IT, electrical, fitter machinist) or 2 years in engineering (electronics, electrical, mechatronics).
  • Experience working on design and prototyping unique solutions or low-rate production runs.
  • Familiarity with technologies like Laser CNC, 3D printing, PCB printing, VR/AR development, software programmable kits, smart applications, and general prototyping.
  • The ability to coach and mentor users to achieve project goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage fabrication machines and associated software.
  • Capacity to research and recommend off-the-shelf software solutions.
  • Australian Defence security clearance eligibility.
