About North East Link Central Package

The Spark Consortium, comprising Webuild, CPB Contractors, GS Engineering and Construction, and China Construction Oceania, has been selected to deliver the Central Package of the North East Link Project in Victoria.

This transformative infrastructure project will close the missing link in Melbourne's freeway network from the M80 Ring Road to an upgraded Eastern Freeway, reducing journey times and diverting heavy vehicles away from local roads.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to play a pivotal role in the design and development of critical infrastructure components.

You will collaborate with a diverse team of professionals to deliver innovative solutions that meet project objectives and exceed industry standards.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the design and analysis of infrastructure elements.
  • Utilize your technical expertise in civil or structural engineering.
  • Employ industry-leading software and tools to enhance design efficiency.
  • Coordinate comment close-out sessions.
  • Coordinate select design packages, including programs.
  • Coordinate and resolve interface issues with other consultants and disciplines.
  • Coordinate weekly design and construction coordination meetings, providing clear records, agreements, and actions.
  • Review and manage cost plans against budget.
  • Provide input to Design Manager Reviews of consultant Variations/Claims.
  • Manage stakeholder and client expectations, communicating effectively with the project team.
  • Coordinate and present key issues for resolution to wider audiences.
  • Proactively engage with consultants to resolve technical issues and achieve package delivery according to program.
  • Develop a clear brief and design program that establishes the design concept, ensures it meets client requirements, facilitates flexible design, generates momentum to improve time, cost, margin, and quality outcomes, and conducts design reviews.
  • Supply drafting and estimating staff with information to assist in producing detailed drawings, developing tools, quantities, materials lists, and cost estimates as required.
  • Prepare plans, layouts, and designs (predominantly temporary works) with supporting calculations for specifications.
  • Assist in preparing technical details for inquiries, quotations, contract documentation, technical literature, or analyzing failures following customer complaints.
  • Challenge consultants to provide compliant designs.
  • Support the Geotechnical CPS Manager and field team.

Estimated Salary: AU$110,000 - AU$140,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 5-10 years' experience in a relevant discipline (Geotechnical Engineering).
  • Masters or Undergraduate Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Computer skills, including word processing, email, and company management system requirements.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental legislation.
  • Knowledge of project management structure, plans, specifications, standards, and implications for project accountabilities.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Client-focused approach.
  • Presentation of work with a high level of accuracy.
