About the Role

As a Detention Operations Manager with the Department of Home Affairs, you will play a critical role in the oversight and management of Australia's Immigration Detention Facilities (IDFs). You will be responsible for ensuring the security, safety, and welfare of detainees, contractors, visitors, and staff. This involves working closely with external service providers, government agencies, and stakeholders to deliver services to detainees and maintain the integrity of the facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and apply legislation, policy, and contractual obligations to ensure compliance with departmental and regulatory standards.
  • Command immigration detention operational activities, including quality assurance and oversight of contracted service delivery.
  • Work safely in an immigration detention environment, responding to rapidly evolving situations and critical incidents to ensure the safety and security of the IDFs and those within them.
  • Oversee immigration detention service delivery, managing logistics and intelligence activities to maintain the integrity of the facilities.
  • Manage an immigration detention facility, ensuring the effective delivery of services to detainees and maintaining a positive, energetic, and supportive work culture.
