Overview of the Team
The Regulatory Legal team at Comcare provides expert advice and support to the organization's regulatory activities, including investigations under the Work Health and Safety Act and criminal prosecutions for alleged contraventions of the Act.
The team supports the Regulatory Operations Group by:
- Providing guidance on evidence gathering, issuing statutory notices, and investigation procedures;
- Assisting with the preparation of briefs of evidence for prosecutions;
- Working closely with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecution and the Inspector when a prosecution is commenced;
- Facilitating continuous improvement projects and identifying trends and capability opportunities for inspectors.
Overview of the Role
The Legal Adviser works closely with Senior Legal Advisers in performing their roles and provides client-focused specialist legal and strategic advice and support to Comcare staff on complex legal and policy matters.
The Legal Adviser will resolve problems and manage risk effectively and manage their workload in a manner consistent with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, the Legal Services Directions 2017, and internal Comcare procedures.
Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment
- Australian citizenship;
- Character clearance (police records check);
- Health clearance;
- Six months probationary period for new engagements;
- Security Clearance: Baseline.
