  • Role Overview:

Avant Mutual is seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team. This role will assist the Senior Legal Counsel in providing corporate, commercial and financial services legal advice and governance advice to all of Avant's businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Review marketing material for legal compliance;
  2. Provide corporate legal, commercial and governance advice to all of Avant's businesses;
  3. Draft, review and negotiate contracts;
  4. Offer insurance product advice and documentation;
  5. Interpret statutes and provide advice on legislative reform impacting Avant's business;
  6. Support with litigation matters;
  7. Advise on complaints and potential disputes, including at AFCA;
  8. Deliver staff legal training;
  9. Collaborate with senior Lawyers, the General Counsel & Office of the CEO.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications (LLB or equivalent);
  • Current NSW (or other Australian State) Legal Practitioner Practising Certificate – mandatory;
  • Minimum 3 years' post qualification experience in a mid or top-tier firm;
  • Private practice experience in providing commercial legal advice;
  • Previous experience working in an insurance and/or Australian financial services environment (beneficial);
  • A pragmatic and commercial focus (including understanding of the commercial environment of the general insurance market);
  • Highly developed stakeholder and people management skills;
  • High level of written and spoken language skills;
  • Understanding of the commercial environment of the general insurance market.
