MinterEllison is one of Australia’s largest independent law and consulting firms. With a heritage of almost 200 years, we are known for our excellence, and our authentic and enduring relationships with our clients, our people and our communities. Clients seek out MinterEllison to help them solve complex problems every day. We do this by our full-service legal offering and complementary consulting offering.

We offer opportunities to work on industry-leading mandates for top-tier clients, while being part of a high-performing and collaborative team that values excellence, diversity of thought, curiosity, and inclusion. We value our people and empower them to achieve their ambitions — with the support, trust and autonomy to grow their careers in meaningful ways.

At MinterEllison, we’re leading the way with AI and other emerging technologies, powering innovation right across our firm. You will have the opportunity to engage with AI tools we’ve built, and other external AI tools, to enhance efficiencies and excellence internally and with our clients.

We currently have two permanent opportunities for Compliance Analysts within the General Counsel’s Office (GCO). This team is primarily responsible for supporting MinterEllison’s compliance with Anti-Money Laundering and Counter‑Terrorist Financing (AML/CTF) laws, playing a key role in supporting the Firm’s AML program, then supporting the Firm’s client intake function going forward. These positions are open to our Sydney or Melbourne office with agile working supported.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

- Participate in project related tasks which support the Firm’s risk management program of work in relation to AML/CTF compliance

- Support the Firm with the implementation, maintenance and improvement of the Firm’s risk management framework and policies

- Undertake Client Due Diligence ('CDD') and risk assessments on the Firm's new and existing clients, and performing counter‑party and payor due diligence as necessary

- Liaise with stakeholders to obtain and interpret corporate documents and other client provided information in line with the Firm’s AML/CTF obligations, whilst maintaining strict confidentiality

- Complete research (from public sources and subscription databases) to confirm the ownership and control of clients

- Analyse Politically Exposed Person ('PEP'), sanctions and adverse media (including money‑laundering, terrorism‑financing, proliferation financing, bribery, corruption, fraud, tax evasion and reputational risk) in relation to clients

- Identify and elevate high‑risk reviews and other queries to Legal Counsels / Senior Advisors

- Support the management of daily AML/CDD workflows

- Maintain accurate compliance records of risk assessments, including drafting and distributing AML/CTF protocols as necessary

- Conduct a variety of internal audits regarding the Firm’s AML/CTF compliance and assist with preparing compliance reports for the regulator (AUSTRAC)

- Respond to a range of general risk related queries received by the OGC Team

- Build rapport with colleagues and deliver excellent customer service to our stakeholders

More About You

Ideally, you will have prior experience in a compliance or risk-related role or have at least 2 years’ experience in an administrative role and are considering an alternate career in the risk and compliance profession in an entry‑level position. You will also possess:

- Knowledge or experience in Anti‑Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Client (KYC) processes or conducting checks (desirable but not a pre‑requisite)

- Strong ethical mindset and demonstrate integrity in handling sensitive information

- Enthusiasm for learning new skills and a proactive nature
