The Lead Specialist, DevOps is a key technical leadership role within Optus’ Group IT Data Office, responsible for advancing and stabilising cloud platforms across AWS and GCP. This role drives best practices in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and SaaS delivery, while supporting a wide range of stakeholders including Data Engineering, Analytics, Product, and Business teams. The position also plays a strategic role in platform design, governance, and resilience, ensuring scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
Your day to day will consist of
- Lead the enhancement and maintenance of IaC, PaaS, and SaaS frameworks across multi‑cloud environments.
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance to DevOps engineers on cloud‑native services and automation.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate business goals into technical solutions aligned with quarterly OKRs.
- Design and manage cloud infrastructure, ensuring compliance with security and engineering standards.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automate deployments across AWS and GCP.
- Partner with stakeholders to deliver resilient, scalable cloud platforms and support disaster recovery planning.
What makes you perfect for the role?
- 8–12 years of hands‑on experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, and platform engineering across AWS and GCP.
- Deep expertise in IaC tools like Terraform and CloudFormation, and strong knowledge of Kubernetes (EKS/GKE).
- Proven ability to optimise cloud platforms for cost, performance, and scalability, including FinOps practices.
- Strong background in identity and access management, observability tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Stackdriver), and CI/CD automation.
- Experience integrating security and compliance controls across cloud environments.
- Skilled in leading cross‑functional teams and managing complex, distributed systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
The good stuff…. | What’s in it for you?
- Competitive remuneration and employee discounts: $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
- Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
- Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on‑site childcare centre.
- Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever’s important to you.
- We support growing families with inclusive, carer‑neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
- Direct your own development and build future‑ready skills with Optus U’s industry‑focused micro‑credentials, developed with La Trobe and Macquarie Universities.
- Build meaningful connections through employee‑led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
- Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in‑person, by phone, SMS, or video.
At Optus, we are strengthened by others and that means valuing diversity and saying ‘yes’ to embracing individual differences. We are committed to ensuring that our application process provides an equal employment opportunity to all job seekers, including individuals from diverse gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, individuals with a disability, individuals identifying as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who may have served in the armed forces or who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
