About the Role:
Howard Porter are seeking a qualified and experienced Vehicle Body Builder to join our team. The role involves the construction, fabrication, modification, and repair of vehicle bodies and trailers to meet customer and industry specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read, interpret, and apply technical drawings and blueprints to build and fit vehicle bodies and components.
- Fabricate, cut, bend, and shape metal sections and panels using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
- Construct, assemble, and fit truck and trailer bodies, including flatbeds, tippers, service bodies, and specialised units.
- Install hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems and ensure correct alignment and functionality.
- Modify chassis frames, mounting points, and body attachments to accommodate custom design requirements.
- Measure, cut, and fit panels, frames, doors, tailgates, and toolboxes using accurate engineering techniques.
- Conduct welding (MIG/TIG and arc), riveting, bolting, and sealing to complete assembly tasks.
- Perform finishing tasks such as grinding, painting preparation, and surface alignment to meet quality standards.
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs or modifications on damaged or defective vehicle bodies.
- Test completed work for structural integrity, safety, and compliance with relevant Australian Design Rules (ADR) and WHS regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of materials used and work completed for each project.
- Collaborate with supervisors and team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely project completion.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Certificate III in Vehicle Body Building or related trade qualification.
- Minimum 1 year’s hands‑on experience in vehicle body construction, fabrication, or repair.
- Skilled in metal fabrication, cutting, welding, and assembly techniques.
- Ability to read technical drawings and work to precise measurements.
- Good understanding of hydraulic and electrical fitting principles.
- Knowledge of WHS standards and safe work procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality workmanship.
