Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP), Band 5 in Mental Health Support Teams (MHST).

As an Education Mental Health Practitioner, you will be expected to work under supervision as part of a dynamic mental health team in a creative environment where evidence-based interventions, new ideas, ways of working and supporting children and young people are actively encouraged. Offering Whole School Approach is a part of this exciting role.

This approach requires flexibility and working in educational settings. We encourage CPD and will continue to support you to consolidate and develop your skills. You will be able to use your skills via direct individual and group work to support children, young people and their parents.

We have neuro‑developmental practitioners and a disordered‑eating practitioner within our service. We offer in‑house training and clinical skills.

There will be an expectation and opportunities to work collaboratively with children, young people and their families to support the co‑production and development of the service, creating meaningful participation work.

We will consider CWPs and PWPs with the appropriate experience/transferable skills.

You will need to evidence BABCP or BACP registration or evidence this has been applied for.

Main duties of the job

The Education Mental Health Practitioner role will:

- Work closely alongside a team of mental health professionals delivering a wide range of evidence‑informed interventions.

- Employ developed evidence‑based skills to work directly with children, young people and families.

- Employ developed evidence‑based skills to carry out holistic and child‑centred mental health assessments, including risk assessments.

- Employ developed evidence‑based skills to facilitate parenting programmes.

The Education Mental Health Practitioner is required to:

- Have the relevant EMHP Post Graduate Diploma qualification following the completion of a CYP IAPT approved training in Evidence‑Based Psychological Treatment for Children Young People (C&Y IAPT) (successful completion of the HEE commissioned 1 year 'Education Mental Health Practitioner' course). Or Children's Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) CYP‑IAPT qualification.

- Evidence of continuing Professional Development and commitment of ongoing learning.

- Experience of working with children and young people, their families and others.

- Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders.

- Experience of working with children and young people who have social, emotional and/or mental health difficulties.

Qualifications and training

- Experience of work with children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems.

- Experience of working within education settings.

- Experience of using ROMS.

- Experience of delivering WSA.

- Experience of receiving and using clinical supervision.

- Experience and knowledge of safeguarding processes.

- Experience of managing risk.

- Experience of working with children and young people with additional needs (e.g. LD, ASD, ADHD).

- Experience of working with children and young people and families with vulnerabilities.

Skills and abilities

- Ability to use IT systems.

- Ability to offer remote and face‑to‑face interventions.

- Ability to record and document interventions.

- Ability to liaise with education settings regarding mental health needs of children and young people.

- Ability to complete audits.

- Ability to work within a team.

- Ability to work autonomously.

- Ability to carry out mental health assessments.

- Ability to safeguard children and young people and follow policy accordingly.

- Ability to travel to meet the requirement of the post (car user essential).

- Organisational skills.

- Ability to use a variety of IT systems/platforms.
