About Justice

When you join the Department of Justice, you become part of a people-focused organisation, working hard to make our community a fairer and safer place to live. We offer many different employment opportunities in locations around Western Australia. You will have a chance to make a real difference to your local communities and to the lives of those you work with.

About the role

As a Senior/Investigator Advocate you will work in an area of law that seeks to protect vulnerable adults with decision‑making disabilities from possible financial or personal abuse, neglect or exploitation.

Your role will involve investigating applications for guardianship and administration – including exploring allegations of abuse and neglect, and gathering information to assist in determining if a person needs someone to be appointed to make their decisions.

You will also have a role in investigating referrals to the Public Advocate that a member of the community is at risk of exploitation due to possible decision‑making disability. This will involve gathering information from family and support services to identify if a person is at risk, and what interventions may be necessary to ensure their well‑being.

You will be required to write reports for, and provide verbal advocacy on behalf of, people at hearings of the State Administrative Tribunal with a focus on promoting the person’s best interests while ensuring any intervention is the least restrictive to the person’s rights.

Our team includes people with diverse professional backgrounds including people with experience in financial services, social work, aged care and the disability sector. The role of Senior/Investigator Advocate can provide an opportunity to apply your skills in a different environment and under a different legislative framework.

If you are interested in promoting the best interests of this group, this may be the position for you.

To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.
