About the Role

Our Family and Domestic Violence [FDV] Advocates work in a collaborative, client-centred, case management context. They deliver a cohesive service across a 24/7 roster, through strong communication, and by working independently while seeking instruction when required. Their role includes risk assessment, safety planning, support planning and advocacy, for women and children at risk of harm through FDV, as well as practical tasks such as routine errands and basic housekeeping. Advocates must be able to plan their tasks across a shift, execute them efficiently, and reset priorities when circumstances change.

Our Values of Healing, Advocacy, Resilience, Belonging, Optimism, Upliftment and Responsibility (HARBOUR) are important to us in our approach to our work

About You

You must be both 'people person' and task manager.  Able to balance empathy and support, with the ability to hold people accountable, and take charge in a crisis.  You need to be flexible, and calm under pressure, with a strong understanding of FDV and trauma.  A great sense of humour goes a long way, so long as client needs and risk matters are taken seriously.  Maintaining consistent high quality service is crucial.  This comes from being a great communicator and trustworthy operator who is willing to learn and practice continual improvement.

· Ability to work with women or people in crisis, with a focus on family and domestic violence.

· Understand and apply Case Management principles of goal setting and self resilience.

· Understanding of, and ability to assess and respond to, risk and safety issues in the context of family and domestic violence

· Understanding cross cultural issues, and skills to work with women from all backgrounds in a culturally sensitive and appropriate manner

· Ability to work within a collaborative case management context, and support an effective team culture

· Ability to work independently (within the scope of the role as defined in the job description, policies and procedures) to make decisions, problem solve, and manage time and tasks

· Demonstrated ability to deal with challenging behaviours and maintain a non judgemental approach to client choice.

· Demonstrated ability to maintain personal and professional boundaries and confidentiality

· Ability to demonstrate commitment to organisational Values, Vision and Mission in day to day work

· Effective written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications:

· Certificate IV in Mental Health, Counselling, Trauma, Drug and Alcohol, Homelessness and/or Community Services or similar.

· Current WA 'C' Class Drivers Licence

· Current Senior First Aid Certificate

To Apply

Potential candidates with the qualifications listed above can contact the Crisis Accommodation Manager between 0830am and 4.30pm (Monday to Friday) on to enquire about the role and obtain a Job Description.
