The Role

- The Amphibious Combat and Support Systems Program Office (ACSSPO) is responsible for the sustainment of the Landing Ship Dock, Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ships as well as the Auxiliary Oil Replenishment (AOR) ships (from 1 July 2025). The organisation delivers Asset Management, Engineering, Maintenance and Inventory Management services to ensure the ships are available to Navy in a seaworthy state.
- The Project Management section is responsible for the delivery of the SEA2048 LHD Capability Assurance Program for the LHD ships HMAS Canberra and HMAS Adelaide. This Program involves the design and implementation of major capability updates and upgrades to ensure the LHD capability continues to meet Navy’s expectations into the future.
- From 1 July 2025, the Project Management section will be responsible for managing the remediation of all outstanding issues relating to the acquisition of the AORs. This will involve management of complex engineering, logistics and maintenance activities.
- ACSSPO is seeking a Deputy Project Manager with experience delivering complex programs of work in an engineering or maintenance context. The Deputy Project Manager will have the flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the Defence environment with the agility to realign resourcing to meet new demands. The Deputy Project Manager will be an outcomes-focussed leader with strong team management and communication skills.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. - The Project Manager is a member of an integrated, multi-disciplinary team of Defence and Industry personnel
- The team is responsible for delivering a complex program of capability upgrades for the LHD capability in close consultation with Navy as the project sponsor

- Demonstrated Project Management experience in an engineering or maintenance context
- Proven ability to manage quality, cost and schedule
- Proven ability to deliver Project Management Plans, Schedules, execution strategies, program status reports and performance management reports
- Excellent commercial acumen and financial management skills
- Demonstrated excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, including strong emotional intelligence, resilience and adaptability
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to negotiate and build relationships with stakeholders
- High level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative with the ability to influence others to achieve tasks and business objectives
