The Role

You will administer the Centre's physical and electronic knowledge repositories and be responsible for continuous improvement to knowledge workflows, processes, tools, and governance and user capabilities. You will assist in developing trusted Business Intelligence to present analytical information in a clear, simple and visual manner.
The Maritime Warfare Centre is currently developing exciting solutions for sharing critical knowledge and insights within Defence in a resilient way. The Knowledge Management Officer, will work with the Executive, and its customers, to ensure solutions make the business more relevant backed up by objective qualitative evidence.
The contact officer can help you understand how your experience & talent will support you in this role. Fundamentally, our team is dedicated to reducing the susceptibility of our fleet to modern threats through lethality and survivability products. In addition, we enhance the ‘rule book’ for warfighting as threats emerge and the world changes around us.
This role is one of the team that is responsible to provide trusted information on how effective warfighting is in Navy. We don’t anticipate that you will start as a subject matter expert but we commit to supporting you develop and enhance your skills including training on Defence systems. We are also dedicated to fostering your career growth and will provide training in the systems and skills required to expand your career and achieve your professional goals.
About our Team
The MWC mission is to optimise and improve the warfighting effectiveness and lethality of Australia’s maritime capability. This is achieved through the delivery of highly effective warfare products that support both the Fleet Commander and the Head of Navy Capability in the context of risk based decision making.
The teams you will be working in directly support this mission by providing decision support information.
- Use and distribution of data as the source of truth to inform decision-making.
- Use dashboards and predictive tools to inform priority and change in situation.

Candidates are sought with interest in the following areas:
- Has a ‘thirst’ to organize and encourage proactivity to reduce volume and increase quality.
- Exceptional ability to identify priorities based on changing criteria and an ongoing MWC product understanding.
- Expert in encouraging pro-active behaviors using enterprise wide systems such as MS office tools, Enterprise Resource Planning tools, workflows and other emerging technology.
- Will hold 1-1 or group training on the ‘value’ of Defense wide process to accelerate MWC delivery to customers.
- Demonstrates experience working with high performance teams where BAU priorities change for valid reasons.
The Warfare Knowledge Manager will work as part of a team to:
- Assist consultations with Directors that business stakeholders, SMEs, customers, and external stakeholders from five eyes partners are receiving relevant information in a timely manner.
- Identify MWC priority ‘advice and guidance’ product consumption and ensure our responsiveness is collaborative, resilient, discoverable and highly valued.
- Provide insights to the HOD’s on customer feedback and recommended improvements to relevant and timely information flows.
- Collaborate with the Warfare Data Engineer to ensure customer interactions are represented in MWC performance metrics at the quality level that generates reputation.
- Foster a blended team environment where the combination of skills result in higher quality outcomes in a more timely and customer focused way.
