Project Manager (Water Utility Infrastructure - Modifications)

Location: Bowen Basin QLD

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and multi-skilled Project Manager to join our team, focusing on niche, small to medium-scale infrastructure modifications and upgrades within the water utility sector, specifically related to sewage water treatment plants and associated pumping systems. This is a white-collar role that requires a robust combination of technical process understanding and strong project management execution.

Key Responsibilities

- End-to-end management of small-scale infrastructure modification and upgrade projects, typically valued up to $5 million. Projects focus on existing plant upgrades (e.g., tank modifications, instrumentation, panel changes).

- Act as a central, multi-disciplined project point of contact, fulfilling the functions of Project Manager, Scheduler and Cost Controller.

- Interpret and work with process documentation, including P&IDs, to ensure all project scopes are accurately defined and executed.

- Display a solid understanding of electrical systems and instrumentation (SCADA, programming, upgrades) related to process control while knowing when to lean on mechanical and structural specialists.

- Coordinate all project activities to ensure seamless integration with the existing plant and infrastructure services packages.

- Lead the implementation process and ensure all modifications are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.

Skills and Experience

- Minimum six (6) years of professional experience in project management or project engineering.

- Hands‑on experience in water utility and sewage water treatment plants; experience with pumping systems highly regarded.

- Proven track record managing modifications, brownfield upgrades, and capital works up to approximately $5 million.

- Strong skills in project planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, and overall project execution.

- Ability to read and understand process schematics and integrate process engineering requirements into the project lifecycle.

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for managing site teams, internal stakeholders, and external contractors.

- Flexibility regarding location (potential talent pool is in Brisbane) with an ideal start within a few weeks for the right candidate.

The Ideal Candidate

You are a Project Manager or Project Engineer who thrives on finding and delivering solutions in a niche and technically complex environment. You are comfortable managing smaller, critical modifications where a deep understanding of water treatment processes and controls (particularly electrical and instrumentation) is key to success. You are a self‑starter who can effectively blend technical expertise with strong project management fundamentals.
