Overview

Alfabs Australia, primarily located in the Hunter Valley, NSW. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Manager to lead a dynamic workshop team at Alfabs Mining. Reporting to the Operations Manager - Workshops, the Workshop Manager will be responsible for leading and overseeing the mining fabrication and mechanical workshops to ensure the successful execution of works required by both internal and external customers. This key role involves managing workshop employees and apprentices, ensuring operations align with Alfabs’ policies, procedures, and safety standards. The Workshop Manager will also oversee the maintenance, repair, and operational efficiency of all equipment and machinery, contributing to the success of the mining projects.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

- Lead a safety-first culture across the mining team, ensuring compliance with WH&S policies, regulations, and industry standards.
- Manage workshop operations and personnel, providing clear direction, mentorship, and support to ensure high performance.
- Actively participate in team meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Oversee workshop employees, including apprentices, and ensure projects are completed to specification, within budget, and on time.
- Ensure workshops are clean, safe, and organized, with well-maintained equipment and clear work areas.
- Drive operational improvements and manage workshop resources to optimize performance, reduce downtime, and improve efficiency.
- Ensure the workshop meets mechanical and fabrication requirements for mining projects, supporting their successful completion.
- Monitor financial performance, including the development and management of workshop budgets, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
- Manage recruitment, performance reviews, and professional development of workshop staff, including apprentices.
- Provide timely support for critical operational matters, including out-of-hours contact if required.
- Ensure full compliance with Alfabs’ internal quality assurance procedures and external industry standards.

Your skills and experience

- Tertiary education in Engineering, Business, Human Resources, Law, Psychology, Education, or similar professional discipline.
- Highly proficient in digital tools, data systems, and technical platforms including Excel.
- Experience in a management role.
- Experience in workshop operations or heavy industry (highly regarded)
- Understanding of WHS obligations, compliance management, and environmental regulations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with team members, clients, suppliers, and senior management.
- Proven ability to solve critical problems and make quick decisions in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
- Advanced numerical insight and a data driven decision maker
