Estimator - Steel Industry

Metal Shop Technics (MST) has been specialising in metal forming and rolling since 1956, servicing Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and the Hunter Valley region.

Due to continued growth, we have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator to join our team in Kurri Kurri, Hunter Valley.

About the Role:

As an Estimator at MST, you will promote and estimate the services offered to both existing and new customers. You will work both autonomously and as part of a successful sales team, interpreting customer requirements through analysis of engineering and CAD drawings, as well as handling sales enquiries over the phone.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

• Entering data accurately into the CAD system and maintaining the CAD file system
• Handling general sales enquiries and preparing/following up on quotations
• Interacting with and supporting internal team members
• Creating nesting programs for CNC machines to maximise efficiency
• Coordinating the processing and estimating of steel
• Liaising with customers and operators while analysing workshop drawings

Skills and Experience:

• Ability to read and interpret engineering/structural drawings, with CAD experience
• Experience with drafting packages and/or programming CNC profile machines
• Knowledge of the steel or engineering industries is highly advantageous
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong computer skills
• Working knowledge of structural steel and experience in estimating is preferred
