RIGCOM is seeking Advanced Blade Repair Technicians for multiple current projects maintaining Australian onshore wind turbines.
The Advanced Blade Repair Technician is responsible for the inspection, repair, fabrication, and maintenance of composite materials and structures. The role involves working with advanced composite materials such as fibreglass, carbon fibre and resin systems to ensure structural integrity and quality. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and expertise in composite repair techniques.
Key Responsibilities
Composite Repairs and Maintenance
• Conduct inspection and damage assessment of composite materials and structures.
• Perform repairs, including sanding, laminating, vacuum bagging, infusion, bonding, and curing processes.
• Repair cracks, delamination, erosion, and other structural damages.
Fabrication and Assembly
• Fabricate and assemble composite components to meet design specifications.
• Perform hand lay-up, resin infusion, and other composite manufacturing techniques.
• Install aerodynamic add-ons, protective coatings, and reinforcements on composite structures.
Inspection and Quality Control
• Conduct visual inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) to ensure structural integrity.
• Uphold quality assurance standards by adhering to organisational and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
Technical Reporting and Coordination
• Document repair processes and prepare technical reports for internal and client use.
• Coordinate with engineering teams, supervisors, and clients to align repair strategies.
• Provide feedback on material performance and suggest improvements.
Safety and Compliance
• Adhere to workplace safety protocols when handling hazardous materials and tools.
• Comply with all industry regulations, including environmental and occupational health standards.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during all repair and fabrication activities.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance
• Operate specialised tools and equipment such as grinders, cutters, sanders, and curing systems.
• Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
Training and Support
• Provide guidance and training to junior staff or team members on composite repair techniques.
• Support research and development activities related to new materials and repair methodologies.
Key Skills and Qualifications
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in composite repair techniques, including lamination, resin infusion, and bonding.
• Strong understanding of composite materials like fiberglass, carbon fibre, and epoxy resins.
Qualifications:
• Relevant trade qualifications or certifications in composite materials, engineering, or a related field.
• Experience in a similar role, ideally within wind energy, aerospace, automotive, or marine industries.
Soft Skills:
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Effective communication skills for technical reporting and team collaboration.
Other Requirements:
• Willingness to work at heights, in confined spaces, or in varying environmental conditions.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety protocols.
