Salary $85,000 to $90,000 per annum.

D Fresh Produce is a leading agricultural enterprise specialising in Asian vegetables. Operating on a 50-acre farm in Mangrove Mountain, the business has increased its production capacity tenfold through the adoption of innovative farming methods, including hydroponics and mechanisation. The farm produces premium herbs and vegetables such as white radish, baby bok choy, shallots, coriander, mint, and parsley, supplying Sydney Growers Market five days a week. Position Summary
The Irrigation Designer will be responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing the implementation and maintenance of efficient irrigation systems for D Fresh's hydroponic and soil-based farming operations. This role is critical to ensuring optimal water use, improving crop yield and quality, and contributing to the farm's broader goals of sustainability and productivity. The ideal candidate will combine technical irrigation expertise with practical knowledge of agricultural environments, particularly in the context of leafy Asian vegetables and herbs.

Key Responsibilities
Irrigation System Design and Planning

• Assess land, crop types, and soil/hydroponic conditions to determine irrigation needs.

• Design tailored irrigation systems, including layout, pressure requirements, and water distribution methods for both hydroponic and traditional soil farming.

• Prepare specifications, detailed drawings, and costing for irrigation installation projects.
Project Management and Implementation

• Coordinate and supervise installation and commissioning of new irrigation systems.

• Evaluate existing irrigation infrastructure and oversee upgrades or retrofitting to improve water efficiency and crop coverage.

• Liaise with suppliers and contractors to procure appropriate equipment and materials.
Water Resource Management

• Monitor water usage and implement systems to minimise waste and maximise sustainability.

• Recommend and apply water-saving technologies such as automated timers, moisture sensors, and low-flow delivery systems.

• Assist with the integration of recycled or captured rainwater systems where viable.
Operational Support and Maintenance

• Develop and implement maintenance schedules to ensure the efficient functioning of irrigation systems.

• Provide hands-on training to farm staff for daily operation and basic troubleshooting of irrigation equipment.

• Diagnose issues in pump systems, blockages, leaks, or pressure fluctuations, and provide timely resolution.
Compliance and Reporting

• Ensure compliance with relevant water regulations and environmental standards.

• Maintain records on irrigation system performance, usage, and maintenance activities.

• Contribute technical insights to the farm's sustainability reporting.

Qualifications and Skills

• Relevant diploma or equivalent practical experience in irrigation design or agricultural technology.

• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience working as an Irrigation Designer in commercial agriculture.

• Skilled in designing and installing efficient irrigation systems, including water-saving and automated systems.

• Confident in selecting suitable irrigation equipment and creating detailed technical drawings.

• Experienced in on-site assessments, supervising installations, and maintaining irrigation systems.

• Knowledgeable in soil and fertiliser management, pest control, and supporting healthy crop growth.

• Strong teamwork and communication skills, with experience working with clients, contractors, and farm teams.
