About The Role
MacKillop Family Services is hiring aMaintenance Officerto support property upkeep across residential and commercial sites inBelconnen, ACT and Southern NSW. Reporting to the Property Coordinator, you'll handle routine repairs and maintenance, with a focus onplastering and painting. This hands-on role suits someone with atrade backgroundand practical building maintenance experience.

You’re a hands-on problem solver with a strong trade background and a passion for keeping spaces safe, functional, and looking their best. You take pride in your work, whether it’s patching and painting a wall or troubleshooting a maintenance issue on the fly. You’re confident working independently, but you also thrive as part of a team that values collaboration and community impact.
You’re organised, reliable, and ready to roll up your sleeves—whether it’s managing your own tasks or supporting others to get the job done. Most importantly, you’re motivated by purpose and want your skills to make a difference in the lives of children, young people, and families.
This is a Permanent Full Time opportunity based in Canberra and Southern NSW within our Residential Care Program. The position reports to the Property Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and repairs, including carpentry, plastering, and painting
- Inspect properties to ensure safety, compliance, and presentation standards
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment, completing required safety documentation (JSA/SWMS)
- Assist with the coordination of external contractors
- Support the Property Coordinator and Service Desk Officers in maintaining the property portfolio
- Attend team meetings and contribute to collaborative planning
- Undertake other duties as required to support property operations
What You’ll Bring
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A qualified trade background (carpentry, plastering, or general building preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in property maintenance and safe use of tools and equipment
- Ability to assess maintenance issues, prioritise tasks, and work independently
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Willingness to work collaboratively within a team
- Understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, and awareness of issues affecting Aboriginal children, young people, and families
- Commitment to the mission and ethos of MacKillop Family Services

You must have a:
- Valid and current Driver’s Licence;
