Senior Manager Business Controls
Great Southern Bank is committed to helping all Australians own their own home. To deliver on this purpose, strong governance and effective risk management are essential. The Bank has partnered with Constantinople to build a new small business bank (SBB) delivering innovative digital banking solutions for small business customers. The Bank has recently launched an embedded finance model, onboarding distribution partners to collaborate with the Bank and Constantinople to distribute financial products through embedded partnerships.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape a new business model, combining the fast-paced challenges of a start-up with the foundations of one of Australia’s largest member-owned banks.
Role and impact
We’re seeking an experienced Senior Manager Business Controls to partner with divisional leaders and distribution partners, embedding robust risk and control practices that balance regulatory obligations, commercial priorities, and customer outcomes. This position is open to candidates located in Brisbane or Sydney, offering the flexibility to work from home two days a week.
Responsibilities
- Represent risk and compliance management in projects relating to onboarding of additional embedded finance partners.
- Coordinate risk and control identification (and testing) across the end-to-end customer journey for the bank and embedded distribution partners.
- Perform and oversee risk assessments and maintain a robust divisional risk profile.
- Advise on and monitor compliance with design and distribution obligations, complaints management, and regulatory requirements for new embedded distribution partners.
- Provide training and guidance to embedded distribution partner organisations on risk and compliance requirements.
- Track and respond to risk events, incidents, and breaches internally and across partner organisations.
- Work with stakeholders to set key risk indicators (KRIs), thresholds and triggers.
- Perform obligation assessments and produce compliance plans.
- Oversee management of issues, incidents and action plans, logging, allocating, tracking, updating and escalating as required.
Qualifications and capabilities
- Minimum 10 years in financial services with a strong understanding of operational risk and compliance.
- Demonstrated experience in a Risk and Business Controls function with a robust control framework.
- Solid understanding of risk governance and reporting requirements for a financial institution.
- Deep understanding of design and distribution obligations, complaints compliance, and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to operate in ambiguity and balance commercial and regulatory priorities.
- Senior stakeholder management experience with the ability to influence with professionalism and clarity.
- Experience in both Retail Banking and Business Banking is highly desirable.
