Description
As a Consultant in Public Health Medicine, you will play a key role in supporting the Public Health Manager, leading the disease control team, and guiding strategies to protect and improve the health of the Kimberley population.
You will provide public health and clinical medical expertise in the identification and management of communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as other emerging public health issues. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural environment with a strong focus on Indigenous health and remote service delivery.
Patients in the Kimberley often present with complex comorbidities including rheumatic heart disease. Within a highly skilled team, you will manage notifications of infectious diseases rarely seen in metropolitan settings, such as leprosy, melioidosis, and flaviviruses.
The region faces a significant burden of both infectious and non-infectious disease due to inequities in the social determinants of health. You will regularly coordinate outbreak investigations and interventions and collaborate with Aboriginal health staff and community-controlled health organisations to design programs that reflect local priorities.
Whilst based in Broome, there may be a requirement to work across other hospitals and clinics within the Kimberley region.
- Unconditional general and specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Have Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (FAFPHM), or recognised equivalent.
- Willing to apply for a Medicare Provider Number.
- Willingness to be based in Broome for the duration of the contract.
- Current C Class drivers Licence and an ability and willingness to travel including overnight stays away from home; and
- Above all, we are seeking a Consultant who is adaptable, culturally respectful, and committed to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley.
