Junior School Teacher – Temporary Graduate Assistant Teacher (0.6 FTE)

Ascham Junior School is looking for a newly qualified Primary Teacher, or a teacher education student in their final year of study, for a temporary part time (0.6 FTE) Graduate Assistant Teacher position.

Commencing in Term 1, the role will be a fixed term position for the 2026 school year, and can be worked flexibly across the school week. There may also be opportunities for the successful candidate to be offered casual teaching days outside of their Graduate Assistant Teacher role.

Benefits of this Role

Working under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Learning Enhancement P‑6, there will be increasing opportunities to work alongside experienced teachers, oversee individual and small group programs, engage in supervised teaching, and participate in assessment activities. Professional development experiences will also be available, with regular term meetings to assess and discuss professional learning as well as individual teaching objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Assist individuals and small groups of students with their learning

- Follow planned lesson sequences using knowledge of student learning, content and effective teaching strategies

- Assist in preparing resources to support student learning, including differentiated teaching strategies

- Conduct student assessments, and discuss students’ needs (with teacher guidance)

- Provide verbal and written feedback to the Learning Enhancement Team and classroom teachers on students’ learning.

Qualifications

- Appropriate teaching qualifications in a primary education course, and evidence of teaching practicums

- Sound knowledge of the literacy and numeracy K‑6 NESA syllabus

- Ability to plan and implement authentic assessment to inform teaching and learning

- Commitment to student wellbeing and meeting their social and emotional needs

- Demonstrated excellence in communication and writing skills

- Well‑developed time management and organisational skills

- Ability to follow a timetable, respond to emails in a professional and timely manner and have a good working knowledge of Information Communications and Technology (ICT)

- Willingness to develop as a teacher

- Willingness to positively and proactively contribute to the life of the School, including playground duties, camps and excursions

- A current First Aid and CPR certificate, and a valid Working with Children Clearance

Duties and Responsibilities

- Teaching within the School Principles, including Responsibility, Independence, Collaboration and Reflection

Head of Library and Information Services 7‑12 (Full‑time, Permanent)

We are seeking a permanent, full‑time Head of Library and Information Services 7‑12 to join our team. This role will commence in Term 1 2026. This role reports to the Director of Curriculum and Learning P‑12.

The Head of Library and Information Services 7‑12 will manage and oversee the operation of the School’s libraries. This will include: develop and manage the Library Educational Program; oversee the administrative functions of the library; supervise and assist students with their research needs; and manage library staff.

What You Will Do

- Identify and evaluate the ICT needs of the libraries in close cooperation with the Learning Technologies Coordinator and the Hillingdon and Fiona Librarians and introduce information resources and technologies appropriate to the learning and teaching needs in the school

- Develop and manage the Library Educational Program and Library Policy to support teachers with curriculum planning, and all teaching and student users with skill development in locating, selecting and using efficiently materials and equipment

- Work collaboratively with colleagues and manage library staff

- Oversee the Academic Honesty policy and administer annual testing of student knowledge in academic honesty, referencing and rules around plagiarism

- Oversee the administrative functions of the Library including scheduling and supervision of library staff, devising systems for the acquisition, cataloguing, circulation and maintenance of materials and equipment, textbook ordering and organisation, and submitting reports.

- Manage and administer the Library budget, including annual planning and evaluation processes

- Encourage and sustain enthusiastic use of the Library by students, staff and parents through activities and events

- Co‑ordinate Annual Prize Giving

- Oversee School Archivist and School archives

- Deliver information, research and reading skills lessons to all Year 7 classes

- Supervise and assist students with their research needs in Dalton Study periods in the Library

- Manage the provision of materials, equipment and technical services

- Perform other duties as required.

What You Will Bring

- Tertiary qualification in Librarianship

- Proven leadership and administration skills

- Enthusiasm for technology integration

- Knowledge of current technology in education and collection management systems

- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels to inspire both students and staff

- Membership of professional associations such as ASLA – Australian Schools Library Association and ALIA – Australian Library and Information Association.
