Details: We’re looking for an expert communicator to lead the ACT Government’s Our Canberra team for a period of three months.

You will manage a highly skilled team to deliver print and digital content that informs the Canberra community about the issues that matter to them.

Whether it’s a major infrastructure consultation, changes to the bin schedule or a list of the city’s best burger joints, you will work with all areas of the ACT Government to determine how and when Canberrans receive the information they need.

The Director, Content (Our Canberra) role is part of the Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate (CMTEDD) and works closely with the Social Media and Media and PR teams.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

What you’ll do

- Manage a multidisciplinary team, including supervising staff, mentoring, managing workloads and building capability
- Conduct regular performance analysis and reporting to inform audience growth and engagement, as well as to demonstrate impact
- Manage a number of direct relationships with external stakeholders including – but not limited to – printing and postage contractors, photographers, and Easy Read consultants
- Support emergency communications when required through the Public Information Coordination Centre (PICC).

What you’ll bring

- Extensive experience in audience and insights driven communications and content strategy, development and implementation
- Strong experience in sourcing, developing and editing engaging content for multiple platforms including print, online and e-newsletters
- Expertise in contemporary communications and digital content practices or marketing
- The ability to think creatively and innovatively
- Insightful analysis and reporting on data related to content performance, as well as audience growth and engagement
- Leadership and management expertise, well-developed persuasive and negotiation skills, and exceptional written and verbal communication
- Excellent relationship management and the ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders and audiences
- Adaptability to changing circumstances and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, complex and diverse environment
- A high work ethic, with the ability to meet deadlines and exercise initiative under pressure.

Notes: This is a temporary position available from January 2026 to March 2026 for a period of three months with the possibility of extension up to six months. This position is available to ACT Government officers and employees only.

Selection may be based on application and referee report only. An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months.

This position is based in a workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. The opportunity to work from home exists as operational needs allow.
