Overview

Our Sydney CBD based NSW Government department is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Business Data Analyst for a strategic role based. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact initiatives that shape public service delivery and policy development across the various business units and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering data-driven insights to support evidence-based decision-making. Responsibilities include:

- Leading complex data analysis and reporting projects across business units
- Interpreting and communicating analytical findings to senior stakeholders
- Applying critical thinking and problem-solving to inform strategic planning
- Supporting the development of business cases and performance frameworks
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve data quality and governance

Qualifications & Skills

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

- Data Analysis – Advanced capability in extracting, interpreting, and visualising complex datasets
- Critical Thinking & Decision Making – Ability to evaluate options and recommend solutions based on evidence
- Conceptual Thinking – Skilled in identifying patterns and framing strategic insights
- Negotiation & Influencing – Proven ability to engage stakeholders and drive consensus
- Attention to Detail – High level of accuracy in data handling and reporting
- Planning & Organisation – Strong project management and prioritisation skills
- Strategic Communication – Ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences
- Customer Service Orientation – Commitment to understanding and meeting stakeholder needs
- Technical & ICT Proficiency – Experience with tools such as SQL, Power BI, Excel, and other analytics platforms
- Business Acumen – Understanding of government operations and policy environments
