Overview

Optus is seeking a dynamic Director, Commercial and Special Projects to join the Transport & IP Engineering leadership team. Reporting directly to the Head of Transport & IP Engineering, this role blends commercial leadership with program delivery, ensuring that investment strategies, vendor partnerships, and special initiatives strengthen the resilience, growth, and innovation of our core networks. Acting as the commercial centre of gravity for the function, the Director will shape financial and engineering roadmaps, secure funding, and drive cross-functional projects that deliver measurable impact.

Responsibilities

- Lead the development and execution of the commercial strategy across Transport & IP Engineering, aligning with enterprise objectives
- Oversee investment planning, business case development, and capital governance processes
- Drive delivery of high-impact special projects that span multiple business units and functions
- Lead vendor negotiations, partnerships, and contract management to secure optimal outcomes and mitigate risk
- Champion innovation and transformation initiatives to enhance efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and service performance
- Represent the function in executive forums, providing insight and influence on enterprise-wide strategic planning

Qualifications

- Strong track record in commercial leadership, investment governance, and strategic planning within telecoms, technology, or infrastructure industries
- Proven experience negotiating complex vendor contracts and managing strategic partnerships
- Deep understanding of network engineering economics and capital lifecycle management
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence senior executives, regulators, and external partners
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional projects and driving transformation initiatives
- Strong financial and analytical acumen, with the ability to translate enterprise goals into actionable commercial and delivery strategies
