The Opportunity

Are you a strategic commercial leader with a passion for shaping Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects? At WSP, we are looking for a Commercial Director to lead and elevate our commercial function across major projects nationally.

About the Role

As Commercial Director – Major Projects, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving commercial excellence across bids and project delivery valued over $5M. You’ll mentor a national team of Commercial Leaders and collaborate closely with in-house legal, project, and executive teams to shape commercial strategies, lead commercial negotiations, mitigate risks, and ensure successful project outcomes.

This is a high-impact role where your expertise in contracting methodologies (D&C, Alliance, EPCM, JV, Delivery Partner, etc.) and commercial acumen will directly influence WSP’s success in winning and delivering complex, high-value projects.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead commercial strategy across major project bids and delivery.
- Provide expert guidance on pricing models, risk mitigation, and contract negotiations.
- Collaborate with legal and project teams to shape and negotiate client, partner, and subcontractor agreements.
- Champion commercial governance, compliance, and best practices across the business.
- Build strong relationships with senior leaders, clients, and delivery partners.
- Coach and develop commercial capability across the organisation.

What We’re Looking For

- Proven experience leading commercial negotiations on large infrastructure projects.
- Deep understanding of public sector procurement and contracting models in transport, urban infrastructure, and energy.
- Commercial and contract experience with Tier 1 Contractors and significant private entities.
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to manage risk and drive value.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to influence at the executive level and thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
