- Be a dedicated community member who is committed to supporting people with disability to build stronger, more inclusive and accessible communities.
- Be passionate about inclusion and trained to walk alongside people with disability in a respectful, person-centred way, even though you may not have lived experience of disability yourself.
- Participate in Advocacy WA’s Side by Side training program, which will equip you with the knowledge and tools needed to support, empower, and advocate for people with disability.
- Learn about rights, communication, active listening, accessibility, inclusive practices, and how to support people to speak up and make informed choices.
- Once trained, act as an advocate within your own local community. You will provide support to the local Community Disability Network (CDN) in your area—helping to connect individuals, facilitate peer support, and promote inclusive events and activities. * Work to strengthen community awareness and accessibility, while also helping individuals navigate systems, speak up about their needs, and participate fully in community life.
- By building trusting relationships and encouraging shared learning, Community Disability Mentors play a vital role in supporting people with disability to feel heard, valued, and included—while also helping to grow local leadership and a stronger voice for change.

Side-by-Side training provided by Advocacy WA

Time required

Flexible Monday to Friday.

Requirements

- Driver's Licence (C)

Must be available to attend the Side by Side Community Disability Mentor training provided by Advocacy WA.No prior experience needed—just a genuine interest in supporting people with disability and building a more inclusive community.
