Looking for a meaningful volunteer role that’s actually FUN? Become a 1:1 volunteer mentor with Extended Families and be matched with a young person or adult with a disability in your local area. Extended Families has been supporting disabled children for over 40 years We would love you to join us.
🎨 Cook together. ⚽ Kick the footy. 🎬 Watch a movie. 🎧 Make art. 🌱 Garden. Whatever their interests are — you’ll be there to share time, build confidence, keep them safe and create connection.
Most mentors catch up weekly, fortnightly or monthly — 1 to 4 hours at a time. We also run AWESOME clubs and SPEKTACULAR events during term and school holidays, so you’ll join a thriving community of friendly mentors, participants and passionate coordinators – who support their participants AND each other while having a lot of FUN

Training
Yes we have awesome training and a dedicated volunteer coordinator to support you every step of the way We have a face to face half‑day orientation, fantastic online professional development training and also peer support at our AWESOME Clubs and Events too Plus there is an after‑hours phone number to Extended Families Disability qualified staff – so you are always supported
Time required
This is negotiable. I always say to new Volunteers to under‑commit and over‑deliver Some of our volunteers spend quality time with our participants once a week, fortnightly or monthly for 1 to 4+ hours a session. It depends on your availability. All we ask is sincere communication and reliability.

This is a volunteer service and is unpaid
Requirements
- Working with Children Check
A big heart. Sincere. Caring. Kind. Fun loving. You will need a Working with children’s check (Volunteer level/free). You will also need a NDIS check (Volunteer level/free) and you will need to have done the NDIS Workers orientation model training (free to do) and if you have lived overseas for longer than 12 months in the last 10 years you will also need an international police check. Other than that — references, a CV, and 100 points of ID. We will give you training and support
