About Us

Palliative Care South East provides palliative care in the southeast metropolitan region of Melbourne. We support people with a life-limiting illness to live well and, in doing so, provide support at home to improve the quality of life of individuals, carers and families. Our specialist palliative care services are provided to people of all ages, free of charge, in the Local Government areas of Cardinia, Casey, Greater Dandenong and part of Kingston.

Role

The Palliative Care Counsellor works within an interdisciplinary team and provides specialist grief, loss and bereavement counselling interventions for clients, carers and family members pre and post death. Counselling interventions are based on current grief and bereavement models, and the principles of best practice.

The Palliative Care Counsellor will participate in care coordination with other members of the interdisciplinary team, community service providers, and other external stakeholders as appropriate, whilst displaying and promoting high levels of professional behaviour, strong teamwork and collaboration, and a positive workplace culture. This is a 2-year contract, requiring a commitment of 0.4 FTE, starting in November 2025.

Required Skills and Experience

- Tertiary qualification in Counselling and/or related field
- A postgraduate qualification in Palliative Care, Grief/loss and/or Bereavement is desirable
- Eligibility for membership with the Australian Counsellors Association or equivalent peak body
- National Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check prior to commencing employment
- A current, Full Driver’s licence for the State of Victoria
