Overview

Agency: Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). Location: Perth CBD. Work Type: Fixed Term - Full Time, Permanent - Full Time. Salary: PSCSA Level 5 - $105,167 - $114,938 per annum gross. The ODPP is a critical participant in the administration of justice in Western Australia, providing an independent and effective criminal prosecution service and confiscation practice. The Legal Practice Support Branch delivers paralegal, clerical and administrative support to State Prosecutors across criminal, civil and appellate work. The Branch includes experienced managers and supervisors, and a dedicated team of paralegals and legal practice support officers. Roles are filled from a recruitment pool that may be used to fill other similar vacancies as needed.

We are seeking experienced leaders with a paralegal, administrative and clerical background who have a team and customer service focus, strong communication skills, the ability to prioritise tasks, and a demonstrated ability to apply and interpret legislation, policies and procedures.

Role

Position: Senior Paralegal (Criminal). In this capacity, you will provide essential support for the State’s most significant, important and complex criminal prosecutions and help facilitate the overall effectiveness of the criminal trials and indictment teams. By collaborating with State Prosecutors you will assist in case preparation, address legal issues, and ensure the timely progression of matters. Your supervisory, paralegal and administrative experience will help maintain team standards, and your commitment to a paralegal career will drive your success in this role.

Responsibilities

- Provide essential support for complex criminal prosecutions and assist in case preparation and progression of matters.
- Collaborate with State Prosecutors to address legal issues and facilitate trial readiness.
- Supervise and guide paralegal and administrative staff to maintain team standards.

Qualifications and Experience

- Paralegal experience with a track record in supervising and leading teams.
- Experience in paralegal support within criminal, civil or appellate contexts.
- Strong prioritisation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to apply and interpret legislation, policies and procedures.
