About the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable Senior Paralegal with strong legal knowledge, excellent communication skills and a commitment to continuous improvement to join the State Solicitor's Office (SSO).
As a Senior Paralegal at SSO, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive paralegal and administrative support to legal officers, including managing complex and sensitive legal files, drafting intricate legal documents and facilitating effective communication between stakeholders. You will also assist in the management, mentoring and training of junior paralegal staff to develop and promote a positive culture of continuous improvement.
We currently have vacancies within the below legal teams:
- Civil Litigation: Provides advice and representation across a broad range of sensitive and complex matters, including child protection abuse in care claims, human rights, international child abduction, medical negligence and asbestos, workplace disputes, coronial inquests, as well as public liability cases and class actions.
- Public and General Law: Provides legal support across a diverse range of complex litigation matters, including commercial disputes, judicial reviews, defamation, compensation claims, tenancy issues, and class actions under emerging representative proceedings legislation.
- State Counsel;
- Criminal Law Mental Impairment (CLMI) Team: Assists with the preparation of matters and implementation of relevant aspects of the Criminal Law (Mental Impairment) Act 2023 (WA).
- High Risk Sex Offender (HRSO) Team: Provides legal advice on the detention and community supervision of high-risk serious offenders, in accordance with the High-Risk Serious Offenders Act 2020 (WA).

Pool Recruitment
This pool will be open for a period of 12 (twelve) months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. We use our recruitment pools to build a bank of talent for future opportunities. Applicants found suitable in this pool, may be considered for subsequent, similar vacancies with the State Solicitor's Office for the duration of the pool; however, an appointment is not guaranteed.
To be eligible for a permanent appointment, applicants must be Australian citizens, or have permanent residency status, or hold an appropriate working visa covering the term of the appointment, in relation to fixed-term vacancies.
The recommended applicant will be required to complete a pre-employment screening process prior to appointment. This includes undergoing employment screening, which includes a National Criminal History Check and other checks that may be relevant to the position requirements.
