Responsibilities

- Oversee daily kitchen operations and ensure smooth coordination of kitchen staff and activities
- Plan menus, including daily specials, in consultation with café owners
- Estimate food and labour costs and manage ordering of food supplies
- Monitor food quality at all stages of preparation and presentation
- Collaborate with managers, dietitians, and front-of-house staff on food preparation and service standards
- Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise on procedures to kitchen staff
- Maintain inventory levels, manage stock rotation, and liaise with suppliers
- Order, purchase, and receive raw materials and equipment
- Recruit, train, and support new kitchen staff in both personal and professional development
- Create staff rosters and monitor performance to ensure consistent service standards
- Contribute to marketing initiatives by promoting new menu items and enhancing social media presence
- Ensure all hygiene, sanitation, and safety procedures are strictly followed to meet food safety regulations

Qualifications & experience

- Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent)
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Chef in a similar café or restaurant environment
- Strong understanding of kitchen operations, stock control, and cost management
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and in a team setting
- Understanding of food safety and WHS regulations
- Creativity and passion for food presentation and innovation
