Position Information
Wattawa Heights Public School is situated on Dharug Land, located in Bankstown. It is a small school (200 students) that provides a learning environment for children to take learning risks. We value the importance of the culture of classroom, school and communities to foster stronger relationships, facilitate learning, celebrate diversity and deepen social understanding. Values that are promoted include compassion, equity, empathy, honesty and excellence. Our dedicated teaching staff provide students from Kindergarten to Year 6. We are a collaborative and inclusive community committed to creating confident, compassionate and engaged lifelong learners.
In 2025 the school is establishing a Support Unit of 3 classes of AU and AU/IO students. Successful applicants will be a part of a team who will welcome students, families into a newly established unit.

Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with complex needs, including Autism, mild/moderate intellectual disabilities, social/emotional needs expressed through behaviour, trauma and mental health in a multi-age setting.
- Demonstrated quality classroom practice and highly developed behaviour management skills which enhance student engagement and the development of social skills through enriched, differentiated and individualised learning programs.
- Demonstrated capacity to contribute to a positive school culture with the ability to contribute to initiatives that support student engagement and participation.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate and work as a dynamic member of an experienced faculty team engaging with school learning support officers, parents, carers, teachers, external agencies and the wider community.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
