Position Overview:
As a Design Manager, you will play a crucial senior-level role in construction, responsible for leading the design process, managing multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring that project designs are build-able, compliant, and aligned with a project's technical and commercial objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing the entire design life cycle from initial concept and feasibility studies to detailed design and construction documentation.
- Assembling, leading, and coordinating a diverse team of designers, including architects, structural engineers, and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) specialists.
- Acting as the central point of contact between the client, the design team, and the construction team to ensure clear and consistent communication.
- Developing and maintaining the design program, ensuring that all design deliverables are produced on time and within the allocated budget.
- Vetting designs for build-ability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with all relevant building codes, standards, and health and safety regulations.
- Proactively identifying potential design conflicts, technical issues, and other risks that could impact project time lines or costs, and developing strategies to resolve them.
- Ensuring that the design information is accurate, well-coordinated, and of a high quality to prevent errors and rework during the construction phase.
Key Requirements:
- Minimum 5 year's proven experience as a Design Manager in Tier 1 or large-scale commercial construction projects
- Strong understanding of construction processes, building regulations, and safety standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A strong commitment to quality, safety, and environmental sustainability.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Construction Management or Engineering (preferred).
- Extensive experience in managing large, complex projects
- Proficiency in project management software and construction documentation.
