About the role
We’re all about helping our members make the most of their money. And while they go after their goals, you can too. As Portfolio Manager – Public Equity, you’ll develop and implement investment strategies for high-value portfolios, focusing on public equity. You’ll collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, negotiate agreements, and represent Australian Retirement Trust at industry events.
Your work will include leading research and analysis, ensuring governance and compliance, and fostering an inclusive, high-performing team environment. You’ll also play a key role in developing the less experienced members of the team, helping to build capability and confidence across the group.

This role is a permanent opportunity.
Location: Sydney or Brisbane.
About you
It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:
- You hold relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, investments, commerce, or economics, and you’ve built a strong foundation in equity markets and investment analysis.
- You bring over 10 years of experience in investment management, with a proven track record in manager selection, portfolio construction and oversight, or direct equity portfolio management within an institutional setting.
- You’ve developed deep technical expertise in equity markets, active management strategies, manager research methodologies, and portfolio analytics. You also have strong knowledge of legislation, regulatory frameworks, market dynamics, and risk-reward optimisation.
- You’re highly skilled in investment research and analysis, using data-driven insights to inform strategic decisions and evaluate equity managers.
- You excel in both quantitative and qualitative analysis, including performance attribution, risk assessment, and financial modelling.
- You’ve demonstrated your ability to engage and negotiate with stakeholders, building trusted relationships with fund managers, internal investment teams, and external partners.
- You communicate clearly and confidently, and you’ve presented investment recommendations and research findings to senior management and executive committees.
- You’ve gained practical experience reviewing legal and investment documents in a commercial context, such as mandates, term sheets, and fund agreements.
- You know how to manage competing priorities and deadlines in high-pressure, fast-paced investment environments.
- You operate with high ethical standards, sound judgement, and a strong commitment to fiduciary duty.
