About Us
Relationships Australia Queensland (RAQ) is Queensland’s leading provider of relationship and family wellbeing services. Our purpose is to provide individuals and families with the tools and support they need to build happier, healthier lives. Through education, counselling, and community programs we help people develop the skills and resilience to navigate life’s challenges. We promote care and safety, embrace diversity and foster strong, connected communities.
About the Role
We’re seeking a dedicated and compassionate male Domestic and Family Violence Worker to join our Stopping Family Violence program in Brisbane. This role is available for part‑time or full‑time hours and offers supportive onboarding, on‑the‑job training and opportunities for professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate group programmes with men who use violence, prioritising the safety and wellbeing of partners, families and the wider community.
- Provide individual counselling to support accountability and long‑term behaviour change.
- Deliver crisis intervention and provide information and support relating to protection orders, court processes and the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act.
- Assess programme suitability and provide case management with a strong focus on the safety of clients and their families.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with police, solicitors, court staff, other counsellors and community agencies to strengthen a coordinated community response.
- Contribute to community education initiatives that raise awareness of DFV and promote prevention strategies.
- Work hours will be negotiated with the successful candidate; flexibility is required, including an evening shift (Wednesday 12pm‑8pm).
About You
You are a compassionate and skilled practitioner passionate about creating safer futures for individuals, families and communities impacted by domestic and family violence. With a strong grounding in social or behavioural sciences, you bring experience in group facilitation and individual counselling and the ability to engage respectfully and collaboratively with men who use violence. You thrive in building trust, working in partnership with community agencies and delivering prevention programs that drive awareness and early intervention. Importantly, you are resilient, adaptable and committed to advancing safety, accountability and positive change.
Additionally, you have:
- Undergraduate qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences.
- Experience working in DFV.
- Experience with clients in a group facilitation model and individual counselling (preferred).
- Demonstrated experience working with local networks and agencies using principles of community development (preferred).
- Knowledge of current theory and practice relating to domestic and family violence and the capacity to deliver community education programmes.
We Can Offer You
- Work‑Life Balance – Enjoy a flexible, supportive culture that empowers you to thrive at work and at home.
- Professional Support – Benefit from dedicated clinical supervision designed to support your growth as a practitioner.
