About Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service
Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service (QIFVLS) is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander controlled, not-for-profit community legal practice that has been standing with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for more than 15 years.
Established in 2009, with offices in eight regions across Queensland.
We specialise in supporting victims experiencing domestic and family violence and sexual assault by delivering a combination of:
• Legal advice, casework and representation in domestic and family violence, family law, child protection, victims' assistance, and related areas.
• Court and tribunal advocacy.
• Wellbeing and case management support, helping clients access housing, safety planning, income support and community services.
• Community legal education and prevention initiatives, working with schools, health services and local organisations to build safer futures.
To further strengthen our support services and respond to growing community needs, we are expanding with our dedicated Case Management Officers and Outreach Engagement Teams across Queensland. Enhancing our ability to provide holistic, wrap-around, culturally safe support by reaching more clients in regional and remote areas—ensuring no one is left behind.

Please note, that to perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25, 104 and 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).
About the role
As an Outreach Engagement Officer, you will play a vital role in strengthening relationships and building capacity within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. You will facilitate culturally grounded workshops, promote QIFVLS programs and services, and deliver meaningful outreach and referral pathways that empower individuals and families.
This position focuses on bringing people together through knowledge sharing, community engagement, and collaboration with key stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Outreach Engagement Activities
- Develop and manage local community partnerships in a professional and culturally appropriate manner.
- Develop community engagement strategic plans including contribution from Case Management Officers (CMO) and Community Family Advocate (CFA)
- Network and liaise with community organizations, men's and women's groups, government departments, and community justice groups to promote QIFVLS services.
- With Community Development Manager (CDM) oversight and pre-approval, represent QIFVLS within the region or community by attending and networking during functions, workshops and forums relevant to the function of the Outreach Engagement Advisor (OEA) role, in a manner consistent with QIFVLS' professional standards and code of conduct.
Travel
- Schedule and organize regular and extensive travel within the region, utilizing relevant forms and checklists, including submission of project plans a minimum of 4 weeks prior to travel.
- Proposed travel bi-monthly or an as needs basis
- Report directly to the Community Development Manager (CDM) on issues and challenges encountered during outreach efforts on unseen circumstances that can delay or prevent entry into communities, that impact on outreach activities. Barriers may include severe weather, poor road conditions, health emergencies such as pandemics outbreaks, cultural events, logistical issues, administrative delays, and/or internal community conflicts.
Dissemination of Information
- Define and communicate the engagement strategic plans, maintaining currency in QIFVLS' regional stakeholder directories.
- Maintain accuracy in data entry and information management including updating regional profiles, utilizing QIFVLS' stakeholder directories and other information relevant to the Outreach Engagement Advisor (OEA) functions.
- Acting as a conduit within community, utilizing internal communication protocols that keep QIFVLS' other outreach teams, informed about discreet community closures due to ceremonies, rituals, or temporary halts to engagement activities.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and currency in QIFVLS' diary management system.
- Proactively update, maintaining currency of the QIFVLS Community Profiles for each region/outreach.
Community Events
- Identify, address, and report on reasonable unmet demand or needs within communities and regions by gathering and collating information that translates to analytical data, collaborating with community decision-makers, in the development of actionable plans to meet these needs.

- Hold relevant qualifications in Community Services (Certificate III or higher), Case Management, Counselling, Social Work, or a related field; and/or possess equivalent qualifications and extensive experience in case management or a similar role.
- Hold a current Open C Class Queensland Driver's Licence.
- Hold a current Working with Children Blue Card or be eligible and willing to obtain one.
- Be willing to undertake a National Police Clearance Check.
