About Us

At Relationships Australia Queensland (RAQ), we are proud to be Queensland’s leading provider of relationship and family wellbeing services. Our purpose is to provide individuals and families with the tools and support they need to build happier, healthier lives. Through education, counselling, and community programs, we help people develop the skills and resilience to navigate life’s challenges.

Our work promotes care and safety, embracing diversity to foster strong and connected communities. We are committed to expanding our expertise and leading conversations about relationships, mental health, and social connection.

By joining Relationships Australia Queensland, you can be part of a dedicated team making a positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities.

About the Role

Relationships Australia Queensland (RAQ) is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Child and Youth Counsellor to join our Thriving Kinnections program on a full-time, fixed-term basis. This rewarding role will support children, young people, and families impacted by domestic and family violence (DFV), with a focus on culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches.

This position is part of our Thriving Kinnections Program in Townsville, which is dedicated to supporting First Nations children and families. We are committed to building a culturally safe and welcoming workplace that values the knowledge, strengths, and lived experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We strongly encourage applications from First Nations candidates, as your unique perspectives are vital to the success of this program and to ensuring it meets the needs of the community it serves.

In this role, you will provide culturally informed interventions to First Nations individuals and families in the Townsville community impacted by family violence. Your work will focus on fostering healthy relationships, addressing violent and abusive behaviours, and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of individuals, children, and families.

Additionally, you will:

- Provide individual and group counselling to children, young people, and families affected by DFV

- Deliver culturally safe, healing-focused interventions using a child-centred and family systems lens

- Support community education initiatives and build partnerships with local service

- Contribute to the development and facilitation of culturally based group programs

- Maintain accurate records and support program evaluation and reporting

- Advocate for the rights and safety of clients within systems and services

About You

To succeed in this role, you will be a compassionate, skilled professional with a deep understanding of DFV and the intergenerational impacts of trauma. You will be confident engaging with diverse communities and committed to empowering families through strengths-based support.

Additionally, you have:

- A tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or a related human services field

- Demonstrated experience providing therapeutic support to children, young people, and families

- Knowledge of domestic and family violence legislation and trauma-informed care

- High-level interpersonal, communication and advocacy skills

- Ability to build trust and work collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

- Competence using client information management systems and digital tools

We Can Offer You

At RAQ, we believe in supporting our people both inside and outside the workplace. Here’s what you can look forward to as part of our team:

Work-Life Balance - Enjoy a flexible, supportive culture that empowers you to thrive at work and at home.

Boost Your Take-Home Pay - Access salary packaging options of up to $15,900 per year, significantly increasing your net income.
