Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) is a large service provider which works across metropolitan and country primary and secondary schools, providing instrumental instruction to students from Years 3 to 12. In addition to weekly small group instrumental lessons, students have opportunities to participate in enrichment music activities which combine them working collaboratively, across year levels and with students from other schools. IMSS is guided by our school plan as well as overarching Department policies and procedures. Our vision at IMSS is to provide a rich environment where students have opportunities and pathways for inspiration, success in music and personal excellence.

IMSS teachers deliver lessons under the IMSS Whole School Teaching and Learning Program, developed from the WA Curriculum, The Arts (Music) and the IMSS Pedagogical Framework which includes the aspects Playing from Notation, Playing by Ear, Playing from Memory, and Improvisation. IMSS teachers are supported to deliver the teaching and learning program including common assessments which inform ongoing teaching practice. Effective and educative feedback to students, parents, and schools via assessment and reporting is an essential element of the role. Instrumental lessons are delivered alongside the classroom music program and supported by the host school.

Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Program Coordinator – Brass.

The successful applicant will ideally be a motivated, highly skilled, and innovative educator to join the Senior Leadership Team. In collaboration with the principal and members of the executive team they provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision.

Central to this position would be the ability to provide educational leadership guided by the IMSS Pedagogical Framework and School Plan. This includes the quality of Brass teaching, administrative supervision, and performance development of staff. You would also liaise with the Executive and allied professional on the management of resources for Brass instruction, including suitable staff deployment and instrument management.

The successful applicant should ideally use effective change strategies to lead the school community to accept and develop opportunities for improved performance in the relevant area of responsibility. A key part of this role is participation in decision making processes, and actively promoting the educational policies and strategies of the Department of Education and the IMSS to instrumental music teachers, school-based administrators, staff and the general community.

The Program Coordinator ideally models a culture of self-reflection and improvement providing coaching and mentoring as they promote professional growth and leadership capabilities within teams and in others. They should possess excellent organization, communication and public relation skills that allow them to build and maintain collaborative and respectful partnerships across our school community. We value creative thinking that leads to better solutions and outcomes for our students.

The successful applicant will ideally bring to the role a strong sense of passion and motivation in music education through the Brass Learning Area and will retain a teaching role. A high level of teaching competence in the Arts, Music area of Strings teaching and an understanding of the stylistic requirements of the context will be well regarded. A knowledge of specific instrumental pedagogy including music literacy, and general curriculum trends in music education is also advantageous.

Some regional travel is required in this role, this will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
