Your New Workplace
Crown Law is the in‑house law firm for the Queensland Government dedicated to supporting the State in achieving its priorities and meeting its legal obligations. At Crown Law, you will be part of a talented and purpose‑driven team, working on some of the most novel and complex matters in the public sector—work that helps shape the future of Queensland. With opportunities for meaningful work, mentorship and long‑term development, it’s a unique and rewarding place to grow.
Your New Team
The Constitutional Law Team is a highly skilled group of 11 practitioners who specialise in constitutional and complex public law matters, as well as other significant issues that do not sit neatly within other practice areas. This variety makes the team one of the most interesting and intellectually challenging practices within Crown Law. The team also supports the Solicitor‑General in advising on the most important and complex legal questions for the State.
The team provides strategic advice to the Attorney‑General and Queensland government agencies on constitutional issues, statutory interpretation and sensitive matters of public importance. Members of the team regularly instruct the Solicitor‑General and the Crown Counsel in High Court proceedings.
Recent work has included constitutional and human rights litigation in the High Court, the Queensland Court of Appeal and the Queensland Supreme Court, and advising on duties of excise and freedom of interstate trade and commerce. The team has also assisted agencies in responding to Parliamentary Committee requests, advised on the interaction of State and national energy laws the limits of executive power and proposed legislation.
Your New Role
As a Senior Lawyer in the Constitutional Law Team, you will work on some of the State's most interesting and high‑profile legal issues. You will provide advice to government on complex public law questions, assist in the preparation of matters for litigation in superior courts, and support the Solicitor‑General on issues of State significance. You will also have the opportunity to develop expertise in constitutional law, with close mentoring from senior lawyers in the team, while applying your existing skills to new and challenging legal contexts.
This role is well‑suited to a mid‑level or upper‑junior solicitor with strong advisory skills who enjoys tackling novel issues and adapting quickly. Whether you have experience in government advisory work, commercial litigation, or another area of complex practice, you will have the opportunity to apply your skills to significant public law matters and build a career in constitutional law.
Culture & Benefits
Reflecting the rich diversity of Queensland, Crown Law brings together people from all backgrounds—First Nations, migrant communities and beyond. With a strong focus on inclusion, collaboration and professional growth, Crown Law offers a rare blend of impactful legal work and a supportive culture that helps careers thrive.
Some of the benefits include:
- Flexible working arrangements including part‑time and job sharing, work from home, compressed/staggered hours;
