Workplace Health and Safety Advisor
Drive a Positive Safety Culture Across Council Operations. We are seeking an experienced WH&S Advisor to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety practices across all Council operations. This role is ideal for a WH&S professional with civil works and operational site experience who thrives in a dynamic, community-focused organisation.
Overview
Key responsibilities include providing specialist WH&S advice, delivering training, conducting audits and investigations, promoting staff engagement in WH&S, developing Safe Work Method Statements and WH&S documentation, leading incident investigations and corrective actions, and ensuring the Council maintains a compliant Safety Management System. The role focuses on driving continuous improvement in safety performance and risk mitigation.
Key responsibilities
- Provide specialist WH&S advice and implement practical solutions tailored to operational needs.
- Deliver employee WH&S training and inductions, particularly in high-risk or civil work environments.
- Conduct timely WH&S audits, site inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Promote staff engagement in WH&S through effective communication and behaviour-based safety practices.
- Assist with the development of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and WH&S documentation.
- Lead and report on WH&S incident investigations, treatment plans, and corrective actions.
- Ensure Council maintains a compliant and effective Safety Management System.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance and risk mitigation.
What you will bring
- A relevant Workplace Health and Safety qualification.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in WH&S, with strong operational knowledge of civil worksites and field-based risk management.
- Proven ability to develop and implement safe systems of work in a practical and sustainable way.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- High attention to detail, excellent communication, and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
