Are you dedicated to ensuring efficient and safe fleet operations while supporting a skilled mechanical and welding fabrication team? Council is seeking a proactive Fleet and Workshop Support Officer to assist the Fleet, Workshop, and Stores Coordinator in managing Council’s fleet operations.

In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining compliance, promoting workplace safety, and driving operational efficiency—all aligned with Council’s policies, procedures, and strategic objectives.

**About the Role**:
As the Fleet and Workshop Support Officer, you will:

- Enter and maintain accurate data on fleet, plant, and equipment within Council’s asset management system.
- Coordinate the commissioning of new fleet, plant, and equipment for operational service.
- Manage the decommissioning of old assets in accordance with Council directives.
- Schedule and oversee service, maintenance, and repairs of fleet, plant, and equipment.
- Assess reported faults and issues, implementing corrections where applicable.
- Organize and schedule certification for applicable assets.
- Complete bi-annual asset audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare daily inspection checklists and complete associated data entry.
- Conduct insurance assessments, coordinate repair quotes, and arrange hire vehicles as needed.
- Oversee the workshop team, ensuring welding, fabrication, and mechanical work is completed to standard and within deadlines.
- Perform additional tasks for which you are trained or certified, supporting the smooth and compliant operation of fleet services.

**About You**:
You’ll bring:

- Competency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a fleet or mechanical workshop supervisor role.
- Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience in mechanical and welding fabrication processes.
- Sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) practices, including the development and review of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs).

**Essential**
- Class C car license
- White Card

**Desirable**
- A mechanical trade qualification
- Class MR Medium Ridgid truck license
- Class LF Forklift license

**Position Details**:

- Full-time (76 hours fortnight).
- 9 day fortnight because life happens outside of work too.
- Flexible work arrangements
- Located just 15 minutes from the Hobart CBD
