Seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Aboriginal Community-Controlled Family Support Organisation.

This is an Identified position and being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational qualification as authorised under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

Position Summary

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the organisation, ensuring the delivery of culturally safe, community-led family support services. The CEO works closely with the Board of Directors, Aboriginal communities, government agencies, and partner organisations to advance the organisation’s vision and uphold its values.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide culturally grounded leadership that recognises, respects and upholds the rights of Aboriginal peoples and ensures these values are embedded in all levels of the organisation.
- Ensure robust governance practices that reflect Aboriginal values and community control, maintaining transparency and accountability to the Board and community.
- Lead strategic planning, policy development, and implementation of programs and services.
- Promote Aboriginal self-determination by embedding community-led decision-making across all levels of the organisation.
- Lead risk management, organisational sustainability, and continuous improvement to ensure long-term viability and responsiveness to community needs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal communities, Elders, and stakeholders. Inspire and develop a committed and culturally competent workforce.
- Advocate for the rights and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and families at local, state, and national levels.
- Oversee financial, evaluation, and reporting frameworks to ensure programs are effective, culturally appropriate, and aligned with strategic goals.

Selection Criteria

- Ability to walk confidently in both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal worlds, maintaining cultural integrity and respect in each.
- Strong understanding of cultural protocols, kinship systems, and community dynamics.
- Skilled at building trust and meaningful relationships across diverse cultural groups.
- Capacity to translate and interpret cultural values, beliefs, and practices in ways that foster mutual respect and understanding.
- Experienced in advocating for Aboriginal voices and perspectives within mainstream systems and services.
- Ability to navigate complex cultural, political, and social contexts with sensitivity and respect.
- Strength in using cultural knowledge to guide decision-making, conflict resolution, and healing practices.

Qualifications

- Aboriginality is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
- Demonstrated leadership experience in Aboriginal community-controlled organisations or Identified workforce related sectors.
- Relevant cultural knowledge/experience and/or tertiary qualifications in related fields.

Conditions of Employment

- Full-time position with salary commensurate with experience.
- Based in Blacktown, with travel as required.
- Employment subject to a Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
- Flexible/hybrid work arrangements (35 week – Full Time SCHADS award L8.1 – 8.3 based on skills and experience)

- Salary to $130,000 - $140,000 (negotiable)
